UAE Secretly Struck Iran, Report Says, Marking Major Shift in Gulf War Against Tehran

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief

(Worthy News) – The United Arab Emirates has carried out military strikes directly on Iranian soil, according to an exclusive report by The Wall Street Journal — a revelation that marks a seismic shift in the Persian Gulf balance of power and places a major Arab Gulf monarchy squarely in the role of active combatant against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Among the confirmed targets, per the WSJ, was a refinery on Iran’s Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf, struck in early April — the same window in which President Trump announced a cease-fire following a five-week air campaign. The attack triggered a large fire that knocked a significant portion of the refinery’s capacity offline for months. Iran responded to the strike with a barrage of missile and drone attacks against both the UAE and Kuwait.

The UAE has not publicly acknowledged the operation. Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to comment on the reported strikes, while pointing to previous statements asserting Abu Dhabi’s right to respond — including militarily — to hostile acts. The Pentagon also declined to comment, and the White House did not directly address UAE involvement, though U.S. officials have continued to stress that President Trump retains all options and holds maximum leverage over Tehran.

“It’s significant to have a Gulf Arab country as a warring party that struck Iran directly,” Middle East analyst Dina Esfandiary told the Wall Street Journal, according to reports citing the article.

The backdrop to the UAE’s reported decision is sobering. Iran targeted the Emirates with more than 2,800 missiles and drones during the conflict, far exceeding its strikes on any other regional nation, including Israel, according to the Journal’s reporting. The attacks disrupted UAE air traffic, tourism, and the country’s property market, striking at the heart of Abu Dhabi and Dubai’s carefully cultivated reputation as safe, stable global hubs for business and expatriate life.

Rather than retreat, Abu Dhabi appears to have drawn a hard line. The UAE has aligned itself more closely with U.S. military operations, backed a United Nations resolution authorizing force to break Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, closed Iranian-linked schools and clubs in Dubai, and restricted visas and transit rights for Iranian nationals. Those moves have tightened pressure on one of Tehran’s long-relied-upon economic corridors through the Gulf.

Military analysts cited in the Journal said the collapse of Iran’s air-defense network under U.S. and Israeli strikes dramatically changed the risk calculation for allied nations. Retired U.S. Air Force Col. John Venable told the Journal that if an ally wanted to engage Iran, the moment was favorable because the threat environment had been reduced. The UAE’s air force, equipped with French Mirage fighters, advanced F-16s, refueling aircraft, and surveillance drones, is widely regarded as one of the region’s most capable precision-strike forces.

The reported Emirati strike underscores a deeper regional reality: Iran’s long campaign of intimidation may be producing the opposite of what Tehran intended. Instead of fracturing the Gulf, the Islamic Republic’s missile and drone warfare has pushed key Arab states closer to Washington, sharpened cooperation with Israel’s security architecture, and accelerated a broader realignment against Iranian aggression.

For Israel, the development is especially significant. A direct UAE strike on Iranian soil would place Abu Dhabi alongside the United States and Israel as one of the few nations willing to move beyond condemnation and take military action against Tehran’s war machine. That shift could reshape future deterrence across the Persian Gulf, particularly as Iran continues to rely on proxies, missile forces, oil revenue, and maritime coercion to project power.

From a prophetic standpoint, believers should watch these developments carefully and prayerfully. The nations surrounding Israel are being realigned before our eyes — alliances shifting, ancient animosities surfacing, and the geopolitical map of the Middle East being redrawn at a pace few secular analysts anticipated. Scripture reminds us that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob remains sovereign over the rise and fall of kingdoms. What appears as geopolitical chaos to the world’s eye is, for the watchful believer, another reminder that history is moving under the hand of God.

Christians should pray for the peace of Jerusalem, for the protection of innocent civilians across the region, for wisdom among leaders, and for open doors for the Gospel in nations now being shaken to their foundations.
