WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – President Donald Trump announced last Friday that he is revoking all executive orders and related documents signed using an autopen during the Biden administration, alleging that the signatures were made without the former president’s authorization and are therefore unlawful.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump said that “any document signed by Sleepy Joe Biden with the Autopen — approximately 92% of them — is hereby terminated, and of no further force or effect.” He argued that White House staff used the device “illegally” and without Biden’s direct oversight.
“The Autopen is not allowed to be used if approval is not specifically given by the President of the United States,” Trump wrote. “Joe Biden was not involved in the Autopen process and, if he says he was, he will be brought up on charges of perjury.”
The White House and Biden aides did not immediately respond, though the former president has previously insisted he verbally approved all clemency decisions and major executive actions.
House Oversight Committee: Biden Autopen Use Was ‘One of the Biggest Scandals’
A House Oversight investigation concluded in October that Biden “was losing command of himself” and may not have personally approved many actions signed with the autopen. The committee urged the DOJ to review the legality of the signatures and determine whether aides acted without authority.
Chairman James Comer praised Trump’s move on Friday, saying the Biden autopen scandal “deems void” any executive actions without documented presidential approval.
Most controversial were more than 4,200 clemency grants Biden issued — many of which were signed with the autopen, including commutations for inmates convicted of murder and other violent crimes. While clemency cannot be revoked, investigators say documentation failures could prompt disciplinary or criminal referrals for aides involved.
Biden personally signed only a handful of documents, including the full and unconditional pardon of his son, Hunter Biden.
Autopen Debate Likely to Intensify
The Justice Department previously approved the use of an autopen during the George W. Bush administration, ruling that the president may delegate the signature but not the decision behind it. Trump argues Biden delegated both.
Trump previously replaced Biden’s White House portrait with a framed image of an autopen as a symbolic protest.
It remains unclear whether the administration’s sweeping revocation will spark litigation, but legal scholars expect significant challenges ahead.
