(Worthy News) – House Democrats are preparing to introduce five articles of impeachment against War Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday, intensifying political divisions in Washington over the Trump administration’s military campaign against Iran.
The seven-page resolution, led by Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.), accuses Hegseth of abuse of power, alleged war crimes, and mishandling sensitive information, according to a report by Axios. The effort is backed by progressive lawmakers and activist groups but is widely expected to fail in the Republican-controlled Congress.
The first article focuses on claims that U.S. strikes against Iran were conducted without congressional authorization, raising constitutional concerns over executive war powers. Additional charges include alleged violations of the law of armed conflict, citing disputed reports of strikes on civilian infrastructure, including a girls’ school in Minab.
Another article revisits the so-called “Signalgate” controversy, where a journalist was inadvertently included in a private thread discussing military operations. Lawmakers allege negligence in handling classified information, obstruction of congressional oversight, and conduct unbecoming of a defense official.
Ansari has been outspoken in opposing the administration’s Iran strategy, calling the conflict an “illegal war” and even suggesting the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment against President Donald Trump.
The Pentagon swiftly rejected the impeachment push, calling it a political maneuver. Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson said the Department of War has “decisively and overwhelmingly achieved the President’s objectives in Iran” and emphasized that Hegseth will continue to defend the nation through a policy of “peace through strength.”
Supporters of the administration argue the military campaign is necessary to counter growing threats and bring long-term stability, framing the effort as part of a broader mission to secure safety for both Americans and the Iranian people.
While the impeachment effort is unlikely to advance, it underscores the deepening partisan divide over U.S. foreign policy as the nation moves closer to a heated election cycle.
