4.4 Magnitude Earthquake in Los Angeles Follows Series of Tremors Across California

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck beneath Los Angeles on Monday, occurring just days after a larger tremor shook much of Southern California.

The earthquake initially registered as a magnitude 4.7 when it struck at 12:20 p.m. local time, centered about 2.5 miles southeast of Highland Park, a neighborhood in northeastern Los Angeles. The U.S. Geological Survey later revised the preliminary measurement down to a magnitude 4.4.

Last Tuesday, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks hit farmland approximately 90 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Although the damage was minimal, it prompted the fire department to activate earthquake mode at all 106 stations. Over the past week, this region has experienced over 400 tremors following the initial 5.2 magnitude quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake was felt from the L.A. basin to San Diego and Ventura.
